There seem to be more postcard
shots of the old Maryland Theatre, than any other theater in town.
On any given day, you can find a postcard on EBAY, but it seems to be the
only theater to have gotten postcard shots made of it. More of a legitimate
theater, the Maryland was part of Kernan's Corner, the group of theaters
at Franklin Street and Howard Street, which included the Maryland, Auditorium, and
Academy of Music. The Maryland Theatre was razed back in the 1950's,
and the Congress Hotel next door was vacant for years, but has been renovated
and has recently reopened as apartments.
