| One
of Baltimore's more popular hotels, the Southern Hotel
was torn down , as the real estate value and location became just
too attractive for investors to ignore. The site is just a
block from the Inner Harbor, but remains a empty lot.

| Just a small list
of a few of the older hotels in Baltimore. Kilduffs attempts to keep in focus the years between 1900 and 1950. We really don't wish to write a complete history of Baltimore hotels, however these listed below do deserve mention. In researching Baltimore's old hotels, we found a source that went into great details of Baltimore's earlier ( much earlier to be exact - around the mid 1880's ) hotels, and thought we could give it mention here. A few that were noted were : The "Golden Horse " Franklin Street and Howard Street ; "White Swan" Franklin and Eutaw ;"Golden Lamb" Franklin and Paca Streets ; "Black Bear", Pennsylvania Avenue near Franklin Street ; "Hand Tavern" , Paca and Lexington ; "General Wayne Inn" Paca and Baltimore ; "May Pole" Paca and German Streets, "Three Tuns Tavern" , Pratt and Paca, " Bull's Head" - Front Street ," Rising Sun" High Street , "Hebbersett's" A few more that we are looking into : Fountain Inn - had been on the Northeast corner of Light and Lovely Lane ( Torn down for the Carrollton, mentioned above ) Barnum's City Hotel - Fayette and Calvert Streets Eutaw House - Globe Inn - at Baltimore and Howard Street Indian Queen Hotel - Southeast corner of Hanover and Baltimore Streets Howard House - Exchange Hotel - Guy's Hotel - Maltby Hotel - Mount Vernon Hotel - Continental Hotel - American Hotel - Rennert House - Mount Clare Hotel - Mann's Hotel - Calverton Hotel - More is coming on all of these and more........ ( I am sure ) |
