| The Carey
Theatre was a " black theater " located on North Carey Street. The building
, as seen above left , was torn down in the 1970's and the site,
above right , is now a school building. Just one block
to the east is Pennsylvania Avenue and the Lenox
Theatre, which still stands. Below, several old ads from over the years can be seen for
the Carey Theatre. |

left , A weekly schedule for both the Carey and Lafayette Theatre in West Baltimore City.
Movies upcoming include "Mighty
McGurk"," No Time for Comedy"
and "Gas House Ride". Both theatres were apparently run by the same company at
the time and ads listiing several movie houses in one ad was common.
Above second to the left , a 1933 weekly ad for the Carey Theatre. Above
center right, a 1917 circa ad for the film " The World and it's
Woman" starring Geraldine Faffar, and finally to the right,
a 1929 weekly ad for the films " Show Boat ", "Frozen Justice", " Hoot Gibson"
and "Acquitted". |

| Several more old
ads for the Carey Theatre : above left , circa 1919 , was showing
for " one day only " Monday February 23rd, at the Carey Theatre. The second
ad actually shows the front of the old theatre, and mentions that at
the Carey Theatre, one could see movies for 5 cents, while other theatres
were showing the same movies for atleast 10 cents. The ad goes on with the
entire weekly movie schedule and reminds patrons that every Friday and Saturday,
vaudeville could be seen with a film afterwards as well. During the week,
serial episodes were being shown. The final ad is a weekly circa 1929 ,
for the film " The Cockeyed World " " Wall Street", and "Peacock Alley"
, just to name a few. |
