One of several long time movie house for Hagerstown was the Academy Theatre. The theater is listed from the 1920's in the early 1950's, and seated between 600 and 1180 people.The Telephone Directory for January 1958  does not have a listing for the theatre, indicating it had closed by then. The theatre was also known as the Warner's Academy, and seated about 600 people.
