| The 500 block of North Howard Street,
was first the site of the Academy of Music, and in the late 1920's, the
site of Baltimore largest theater, the Stanley Theatre. Only the Mayfair ( AKA Auditorium ) Theatre survives out
of the block, once known as Kernan's Corner, which also included the Maryland Theatre. |

| The Academy
of Music was located at 516 North Howard Street, and was torn down to
make room for the Stanley Theatre in the late 1920's. Movies were shown
here off and on during the 1900's to 1920's, but the theater was mainly
a legitimate theater. The Stanley has also since been razed, and the location
is a parking lot. |
